Why visit Đerdap Gorge

East of Belgrade, the Danube squeezes through the Iron Gates (Đerdap), one of Europe’s most dramatic river gorges, inside Đerdap National Park. The trip starts at Golubac Fortress, ten towers on a cliff at the entrance to the gorge, and continues past Lepenski Vir, a Mesolithic settlement around 8,000 years old, and a Roman plaque cut into the rock. It is the best road trip in Serbia.
