Trains

The new fast line is the best way north: Belgrade to Novi Sad in about 36 minutes and to Subotica in about 70–80 minutes. Seat reservations are compulsory on fast trains. Buy tickets from Srbijavoz online or at the station. Other lines are slow.

Buses

Buses go almost everywhere and run often between big towns: Belgrade to Niš takes about 3–3.5 hours. Book online or at the station, and expect a small fee for luggage in the hold.

Renting a car

A car is the easiest way to see Zlatibor, Tara, Uvac, Đerdap and the monasteries. Motorways are tolled; pay at the booths by cash (dinars or euros) or card. Parking in central Belgrade is limited and zoned.

Taxis and ride apps

In Belgrade use CarGo or Yandex Go; Uber and Bolt don’t operate there. Avoid unmarked taxis at the airport and bus station. In smaller towns, taxis are cheap; use ones with a meter.

Tip: Reserve a seat on the Soko fast train at weekends and in festival season. Most long-distance trains use Beograd Centar (Prokop), not the old central station.
