Cash or card?

In cities, cards (Visa, Mastercard) work in most hotels, restaurants, shops and taxis booked by app. Carry cash for markets, bakeries, small cafés, some museums (the Nikola Tesla Museum is cash only), the airport taxi voucher desk and the countryside.

ATMs and exchange offices

ATMs are everywhere in cities. Exchange offices (menjačnica) usually give better rates than banks or airport counters and don’t charge commission; compare the posted rates. Always choose to be charged in dinars, not in your home currency, when a card machine asks.

Tipping

  • Restaurants: around 10% for good service
  • Cafés: round up
  • Taxis: round up

Tip: When an ATM asks whether to charge you in your home currency or in dinars, always choose RSD. Keep some small notes for markets, bakeries and taxis.
