What is EXPO 2027?
EXPO 2027 is a Specialised Expo, a world exhibition recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris. It is the biggest international event Serbia has ever hosted. Countries and international organizations build pavilions around one shared theme, and the site hosts concerts, sport and cultural events every day for three months.
The theme is Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All, with three sub-themes: Power of Play, Play for Progress and Play Together. The program runs on four tracks: cultural, business, educational and sport, with daily cultural and musical performances.
By spring 2026, more than 130 countries had confirmed they would take part. The organizers expect at least 4 million visits, and have said they are preparing for up to 6 million.
The EXPO site: location and layout
The fair will take place on a new 25-hectare site in Surčin, on Belgrade’s western edge, close to Nikola Tesla Airport and the Sava River. It sits next to the new National Stadium, part of the same master plan with an aquatic center and an EXPO Village.
The site is split into three areas:
- Thematic Area: exhibitions built around the theme
- International Participant Area: the country pavilions
- Best Practice and Corporate Area: projects and company pavilions
After the EXPO, the area is planned to become a new fairground and city district, and many modular pavilions are designed to be taken apart and reused.
Tickets and prices
Tickets are not on sale yet. As of October 2026, the official site says only that tickets are “available soon”, with no prices or sales dates.
What the organizers have said so far:
- There will be discounts for students, retirees and children
- Multi-day passes will be available
Local media reported that one-day and three-day tickets are being printed, but this is not an official price list. Buy only from the official EXPO 2027 website or its listed sellers, and exercise caution with resellers.
We will add prices, ticket types and the official sales link here as soon as they are announced.
How to get to the EXPO site
Transport links to Surčin are still under construction. Here is what is available today and what is planned for 2027.
From the airport (about 5 km)
The quickest option is a taxi or ride-hail car. At the airport, use the official taxi voucher desk in the arrivals hall, which gives you a fixed price before you get in. In Belgrade, the main ride apps are CarGo and Yandex Go. Uber and Bolt do not operate in Belgrade.
From the city center (about 13.5 km)
EXPO bus lines and railway timetables will be added here once published. For now, plan on a taxi or ride app, or regular city buses toward the airport and Surčin.
Planned for 2027
- New railway Zemun – Airport – Surčin – National Stadium. It was under construction in 2026, with a target of the end of 2026 or spring 2027. Not confirmed: opening date, timetable and fares.
- Dedicated EXPO bus lines with new electric buses, linking the site to the airport, downtown and nearby areas. Public buses are planned to stop at entrances A and C.
- River dock on the Sava for boats to the site.
- Parking for up to 11,000 cars on site, with e-bike and scooter charging.
Good to know: city transport is free
Since 1 January 2025, Belgrade’s city buses, trams, trolleybuses and BG Voz trains have been free for all passengers. The paid A1 airport minibus is the exception. Confirm that this is still the case before your trip.
Where to stay for EXPO 2027
With millions of visits expected over 93 days, accommodation is expected to be in high demand. Book as soon as your dates are confirmed, and choose a room with free cancellation.
- New Belgrade: modern hotels, wide roads, the shortest drive to Surčin
- Zemun: calmer, by the Danube, between the center and the site
- Dorćol and the old town: best for sightseeing and nightlife, longer ride to the EXPO
- Near the airport and Surčin: closest to the gates, but little to do in the evening

How many days to plan
Plan one to two days at the EXPO and at least two more for Belgrade itself. If you have a week, add Novi Sad, Zlatibor or Tara. Our 5-day and 7-day itineraries fit easily around an EXPO visit.
