Founded in the late 12th century by Stefan Nemanja, Studenica is the mother church of medieval Serbia and a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its white marble church and frescoes.
Sopoćani and Stari Ras
Near Novi Pazar, the monastery of Sopoćani and the remains of Stari Ras, the first Serbian capital, form a joint UNESCO site. Sopoćani’s 13th-century frescoes are among the finest in Europe.

Fruška Gora monasteries
16–17 monasteries survive on Fruška Gora, including Krušedol, Novo Hopovo and Vrdnik-Ravanica. See our Fruška Gora guide.

Manasija and Ravanica
Manasija is a fortified 15th-century monastery with massive walls and towers; Ravanica is one of the most beautiful churches of the Morava school. Both are in central Serbia.
