How to Watch Sport in Belgrade: Basketball, Football and More

Quick answer

Basketball is the best sporting night out in Belgrade: both Crvena zvezda (Red Star) and Partizan play in the EuroLeague, usually in the big arena in New Belgrade, with some of the loudest crowds in Europe. Football means Red Star at the Rajko Mitić Stadium or Partizan in Humska street. Buy through the clubs’ official channels, and check the venue on your ticket.

EuroLeague basketball

Both Belgrade clubs play Europe’s top basketball competition, so from October to spring there is often a big game in town. Games are usually held at the city’s large arena in New Belgrade (Štark Arena / Belgrade Arena). The atmosphere, with drums and non-stop chanting, is an experience even if you don’t follow basketball.

Football

Red Star (Crvena zvezda) plays at the Rajko Mitić Stadium, nicknamed the Marakana. Partizan plays at its stadium on Humska street. League games are cheap and easy to attend; European nights and the derby are a different story. Read our Eternal Derby guide before you go.

Water polo and volleyball

Serbia is a world power in both. Water polo has a long tradition at Belgrade’s Tašmajdan pool, and national-team matches draw passionate crowds. See our water polo guide.

Where to watch on TV

For big games, any café or bar with a screen will show them, often with sound up and a full house. Sport bars around the center fill up early on derby days.

Tip: The fan ends are loud and packed. For a good view of the game with less crush, choose a side section, and buy from the club’s official seller.
