Check the rules for your passport

Pick your country to open the official page of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rules come directly from the Ministry and can change. Always check before you book.

Who needs a visa?

Citizens of the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and many other countries can enter Serbia without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Rules depend on your passport, and they change, so always check the official table from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before you book.

Serbia and Schengen

Serbia is not part of the Schengen area, so days in Serbia do not count towards your Schengen 90 days.

Registering your stay

Foreign visitors must be registered with the police within 24 hours of arrival. Hotels, hostels and licensed apartments do this for you automatically. If you stay privately with friends or family, your host must register you at the local police station.

At the border

  • Carry your passport (or ID card, for citizens who may enter with one).
  • Have proof of accommodation and return travel ready, just in case.
  • Keep the registration slip from your hotel until you leave.

Already have a Schengen, UK or US visa?

Holders of a valid Schengen, EU, UK or US visa, or a residence permit from those countries, can enter Serbia without a separate visa and stay up to 90 days within six months, as long as their visa or permit is valid. This does not apply to emergency travel documents.

Tip: Foreign visitors must be registered with the police within 24 hours of arrival. Hotels do this for you, but ask your host if you stay in a private apartment, and keep the paper slip.

Travel insurance

Serbia is outside the EU, so an EHIC card does not cover you. Get travel insurance before you go.
